Diabetes Discussion Classes

Emerson Hospital will offer diabetes discussion group meetings at 10:00 a.m. on the following Fridays: June 20, July 18, August 15, September 19, October 17, November 21, and December 19, 2008. Meetings take place in the conference room on the first floor of Emerson’s new Center for Specialty Care, located less than a mile from the hospital on Baker Avenue. “This is an informal, relaxed group,” said Cheryl Laundry, RN, BSN, CDE, diabetes educator at Emerson Hospital. “Patients discuss strategies that work for them and look for suggestions from other patients who have diabetes.” All discussion topics are diabetes-related issues that concern patients. For more information on Emerson’s diabetes discussion groups, call Cheryl Laundry at 978.287.8590.
Emerson Hospital's diabetes self-management education program will host a free glucose meter swap on Thursday, August 14, 2008, from 9:00 am–noon. Patients can compare the latest glucose meter, and they can bring their old, outdated meter and swap it for a new one of their choosing. Representatives from major glucose meter companies will be present to answer questions. They will also provide information on how the testing supplies are covered under medical insurance.
